California’s high-tech sector stands as a cornerstone of the state’s economy and innovation, with a strong presence in hardware, software and semiconductors, and emerging fields like AI, quantum, computing, and robotics.

In 2022, the sector contributed about ~$620 billion to the U.S. economy, more than any other state, while hosting some of the largest high-tech businesses, including tech giants like NVIDIA, Apple, Meta, and Alphabet.4

The state also leads in tech talent, graduating about 23,000 students in 2022, more than any other state 5, and hosting three of the top ten AI programs at UC Berkeley, Stanford, and UC San Diego.6
